Ingredients

Scale

For the Cauliflower:

  • 1 medium head of cauliflower, cut into florets

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour)

  • 1 cup water

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon paprika

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs (or gluten-free breadcrumbs)

For the Orange Sauce:

  • ½ cup orange juice (freshly squeezed preferred)

  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)

  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar

  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup or honey

  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (slurry)

  • 1 teaspoon orange zest

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated

  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)

For Garnish:

  • Sliced green onions

  • Sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cauliflower:

    • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

    • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, water, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper to create a batter.

    • Dip each cauliflower floret into the batter, then coat with panko breadcrumbs. Place on the baking sheet.

    • Bake for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy.

  2. Make the Orange Sauce:

    • In a small saucepan, combine orange juice, soy sauce, rice vinegar, maple syrup, orange zest, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes (if using). Bring to a simmer over medium heat.

    • Stir in the cornstarch slurry and cook for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens. Remove from heat.

  3. Coat the Cauliflower:

    • Toss the baked cauliflower florets in the orange sauce until evenly coated.

  4. Serve:

    • Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds. Serve immediately over steamed rice or quinoa.
